Class description

Grades: 3rd-5th

Scratch is a graphic programming language developed at MIT. This class provides a powerful learning tool for beginner programmers. Young students will learn fundamental programming concepts by creating animations and computer games with interacting characters. This class creates a beginner foundation in programming which can be used in other advanced languages.

We offer two versions: Super Scratch and Action Scratch introduce kids to in-depth programming concepts. In these classes, young students will use coding building blocks to build different adventures using animations and storytelling (Super Scratch) and games (Action Scratch).

No previous programming skills are required, but students should be comfortable using a computer.

Super Scratch and Action Scratch can be taken in any order. Once complete, we recommend the next classes to be 3D Game Design Kodu Plus, Modding in Minecraft, or classes such as Design with Python or 3D Animation depending on grade level.

Tabitha and daughter Natalie, 2nd grade
When I ask Natalie how the class is going – she says she loves it and her face really lights up! She has learned a lot of new things and can design games. I am thrilled because the most important thing is for her to enjoy coding and not be intimidated by technology
