    Ages: 11-13*

Required for this class: Windows desktop or laptop, Mac desktop or laptop
The following are NOT allowed for the class: Chromebook, Tablet, iPad

Modding in Minecraft is one of the best ways for kids to learn computer science – students can use their imaginations and knowledge of Java (a widely used programming language) to create custom, unique mods. In these exciting classes, we give students a chance to bring their creativity and problem-solving skills together.

In our classes, kids learn to code their own mods by literally “hacking” the game to bring their imaginations to life - all while learning Java fundamentals (a widely used programming language).

Each themed class below has a specific focus and can be taken in any order! Best of all, kids can test, play, and share their mods so the entire class can play together using their own Minecraft server.

    Minecraft Modding: Java Bedrock

Students will use their new understanding of Java concepts to create their very own personalized mods and minigames such as Spartan School, Epic Mods, and The Walls! Students will not only have the ability to program these mods, but they will also be able to test them out with the class and their friends - on their very own Minecraft server that they will manage!

    Minecraft Modding: Java Obsidian

By learning Java fundamentals, students will be able to program and customize some of the most popular Minecraft arcade minigames and mods such as Blocky Races, Spleef, and even create their own Lucky Blocks! They will not only learn how to program these mods, but they will also be able to test them out with the class and their friends on their very own Minecraft server!

    Key Skills Learned:

Learn the proper Java syntax to develop your own games and programs

Understand game design theory used in game development

Use various debugging techniques to test and perfect your code

Learn how to manage your own multiplayer server, including whitelisting players, and developing your own commands!

Use variables, functions, and control structures to customize Minecraft

    • *These are recommended age ranges. We can adjust based on your child’s needs and abilities.

    • NOTE: Class requires a computer. No Chromebooks, tablets, or game devices can be used. You will need a copy of Minecraft Java Edition - Computer Version. If you do not have it, you can purchase at the official Minecraft website.
