Web Development

Web Development with HTML, JavaScript, CSS

Ages: 10-15*

Course Overview:

This course emphasizes components of both creative design and technical learning – encouraging students to embrace teamwork, creativity, and problem-solving as they progress on their coding journey!

Our Web Dev/Design course covers web development and design from the basics of HTML and CSS to JavaScript fundamentals. HTML (HyperText Markup Language) is used to lay down the framework/structure, while CSS (Cascading Style Sheets) takes care of presentation, and JavaScript (JS for short) sets the behavior. These 3 components come together to give one a dynamic website! This course is a great way for kids to learn HTML.

We emphasize how best to “layer” these 3 components and why each one plays such an important role. This course offers an intuitive, step-by-step guide of the basics to enable students to create simple web pages – covering page layout and style and then expanding to a variety of mini-projects which ultimately leads to a final project.

Key Skills students will build in class:

Level 1: Create HTML webpages with basic CSS formatting, Embed images, Hyperlinks

Level 2: Bring webpages to life with JavaScript, Create forms, Apply PHP

Level 3: Utilize more advanced HTML, CSS, and JavaScript techniques, Customize web design

Examples of student projects:

themed webpage with images, formatted text/video, highly customized final project website based on student’s chosen topic
